#lentphotos - 36 - a necessity

Water.

A necessity that we take for granted in the first world. I had originally lined up a photo of a running tap until my conscience was rightly awoken, remembering that many people in the world cannot access water in this way. They might have to walk daily for some distance to collect water supplies, when all we have to do is turn on a tap.

Here it is just there, instant, a given, a constant, clean and fresh.

Missed when there is a problem to the supply.

Complained about when too much is dispensed from the sky in one go.

Journalists dispatched to report on flooding stories freely bandying words like 'lifetime', 'record' and 'how does this make you feel'.

Lightweight jokes on social media.

But we really cannot survive for long without it.
